We all know that an air ambulance is an aircraft taken in use for urgent medical situation to offer backing where a customary ambulance cannot simply or rapidly reach the scene. It is used where the patient needs to be repositioned at a distance where air transportation is most sensible. Often such ambulance crews are equipped with paraphernalia that enables them to give medical treatment to a critically injured or ill patient. Some widespread tools for air ambulances comprise respirators, medication, an ECG and monitoring unit, CPR equipment, and stretchers. Ornge, which was formerly known as Ontario Air Ambulance, is also the air ambulance service for the region of Ontario and for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The condition of ambulance services in Ontario is presided over by the Ambulance Act. The act calls that the Minister of Health and Long Term Care must make sure that the survival right through Ontario of a unbiased and incorporated system of ambulance services and communication services used in dispatching ambulances. In 1977, the air ambulance plan was set-up to dish up far-flung areas for the most part in Northern Ontario that are hard to find to land ambulances or that land ambulances would take too long to reach. Ontario became the first Canadian province to endow with a helicopter-based air ambulance system to convey seriously ill patients to hospital. It is also true that air ambulances are also taken in use there to carry medical teams and organs for transport.

A good fraction of the air ambulance service is caught up in helping the indigenous communities, of which there are in the region of around 150, in Northern Ontario. The Ministry runs an air ambulance dispatch centre to be found in Toronto by the name of Med-Com. At the moment, the air ambulance program has turned out to be a central constituent of the larger emergency health system in communities across the Province.    Relying on countryside, vicinity, service provider and by type of air ambulance, the medical squad of an air ambulance varies. On the other hand, in most cases, it may consist of one or more members of ambulance group and Technician or Paramedic. From time to time, a flight nurse or a physician can be seen in other occasions.

Ontario Air Ambulance makes it mandatory for pilots  to comprise a great deal of experience in piloting their aircraft for the reason that the conditions of air ambulance flights are often more challenging than regular non-emergency flight services. Depending on the tools, team and stipulation of the patient, the ambulance makes way for one or more passengers. Space in most Ontario Air Ambulances is awfully restricted; as a result, friends and family have to follow other way to go behind the patients. There is one more interesting aspect that Ornge does not have possession of any planes or helicopters and in its place, contracts with private operators to endow with aircraft, pilots, and bases to house the aircraft when not in use.
